Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Unlike traditional laminate, HarborGuard uses a waterproof HDF core with four-side wax sealing that has been tested to withstand over 100 hours of water exposure without swelling, warping, or delaminating. It's rated for kitchens, bathrooms, and high-moisture areas where standard laminate would fail.
Both are 100% waterproof, but they use different core materials. HarborGuard laminate uses a waterproof HDF (wood fiber) core at 12mm thickness, delivering a warmer, more natural underfoot feel. SPC uses a stone polymer core that is thinner (typically 5-7mm) and more rigid. Laminate generally offers more realistic wood grain visuals, while SPC excels in areas with extreme temperature fluctuations.
Yes — that's one of HarborGuard's key advantages over traditional laminate. The waterproof HDF core and wax-sealed edges protect against spills, splashes, and everyday kitchen moisture. Just wipe up standing water promptly as you would with any floor.
HarborGuard laminate is 12mm thick including the attached pad — significantly thicker than standard laminate (usually 7-8mm) and most SPC (5-7mm). The extra thickness translates to better sound absorption, a more solid underfoot feel, and improved durability against impacts and heavy furniture.
For most homeowners with basic tools, yes. HarborGuard uses the Unilin click-lock system — the same patented mechanism used by premium European flooring brands. Planks click together without glue, nails, or special tools. A typical room can be installed in a day. We recommend watching our installation guide and ensuring your subfloor is flat within 3/16" over 10 feet.
