Metal Z Flashing

Z-profile flashing for horizontal joints between siding courses, above doors and windows, and at trim transitions. Sheds water past the joint below.

Z-flashing slips above a horizontal joint — between courses of lap siding, above a window or door head, between two different trim materials — and tucks the water-shedding leg over the lower material with the upper leg concealed behind the upper material. The Z-bend is what makes it work: water hitting the upper face is directed forward and off, not down into the joint.
